The Hogeschool Rotterdam (HR) announced a merger with the department of Communication, Media and Innovation (CMI), part of a bigger reorganization. With this merge the Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA) loses its autonomous position, its status as art academy. Help us preserve our art education!

We
everyone having affinity with the WDKA: students, staff, alumni, institutions
establish that:
- we see no transparency from the executive board of the Hogeschool Rotterdam.
- the board wants to provide further explanations after the decision is final.
- in the current statement (HINT, FAQ) the autonomy of the art academy and the space for art is lost.
- the consequences for the WDKA and CMI are not clear.
- the voting by the Central Participation Council (CMR) will be on the 17th of December 2025.
and request
- stop the merger with CMI.
- transparency: clarity, assurances and answers about the autonomous position and specific consequences of and for the WDKA.
- independence: preserve our autonomous position within the Hogeschool Rotterdam.
- design academy: remain an art and design academy, not only design academy as proposed.
- No relocation.
- No renaming to ‘Design Academy’.
- Preserve the curriculum, preserve staff and teacher contracts.
